GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — School Bus drivers are still in high demand for this coming school year.
The shortage of school bus drivers that cropped up during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing. Lamers Bus Service’s Cyndi Lawler says compared to last year it’s perhaps a little worse.
“It’s not looking significantly better…from the carriers I’ve talked with, it’s pretty much one step forward, two steps back,” Lawler told WTAQ.
She says pay is through the roof, with operators making $20-$24 an hour, and there are plenty of hours available. She adds that actually driving the bus is easy.
“When we bring somebody in, we actually get them out in the bus and let them drive it, and they see that it handles very easily,” said Lawler.
