GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A serial arsonist was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in federal prison.
James Ambrosius was also placed on extended supervision for three years, after he was convicted of arson of a building used in interstate commerce. The charges were for these fires:
- July 25, 2021: 3700 Elmview Road, Green Bay
- Nov. 3. 2020: 521 Fernando Drive, De Pere
- Aug. 7, 2018: 630 Orlando Drive, Hobart
Ambrosius was charged in state court with eight fires around Brown County, but those counts were dropped in favor of the federal prosecution, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators examining a July 25, 2021 fire at a Ledgeview business identified an employee — Ambrosius — as a possible suspect. A review of security video placed him at the scene. Ambrosius admitted to being there to steal money to buy cocaine, but denied setting the fire. Eventually, he admitted to setting the fire to cover up the burglary. He then admitted to setting several other fires.
No injuries were reported for any of the fires.
