GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Bay Beach visitors will notice things will look a little different at the park when it opens a week from Saturday.
Two rides, the Bay Beast and the Falling Star, are being permanently removed.
However, the plan is to find new rides to take their places.
The Bay Beast debuted at Bay Beach six years ago and the Falling Star was introduced a year later.
“These rides were very popular at the park and we expect whatever we replace them with will be just as popular,” said Jason Arnoldi, Bay Beach’s manager.
Arnoldi says Falling Star rides are being decommissioned across the country by its manufacturer.
He says the Bay Beast would have cost more than $350,000 to repair. Buying a similar ride would cost between $250,000 and $600,000.
Like many rides at Bay Beach, both were purchased used.
The Friends of Bay Beach, the fundraising group for the park, donated the two rides to the park.
Arnoldi says installing new rides won’t be as costly as when the Bay Beast and Falling Star were put in, because the infrastructure is already in place.
Starting May 7th, Bay Beach will be open on weekends. Starting May 24th, it will be open every day.
