The Milwaukee Brewers victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday night fit neatly on a 3×5 card. The Brewers scored five runs on just three hits but it was enough to take a second straight over their division rivals.
The Crew broke out with four runs in the second inning as Rowdy Tellez swatted a two run homer and Kolton Wong delivered a two run double. The lead was plenty for Corbin Burnes on the mound. He pitched five scoreless innings by either striking out Pirate batters or getting them to pound the ball into the ground. Not a single out was recorded by an outfielder. In the 6th, former Brewer Daniel Vogelbach caught a mistake and hit a solo home run to center. Burnes gave up another long ball to Josh Van Meter in the top of the 7th to make it a 4-2 game. The Cy Young winner would finish the frame to earn his first win, allowing the two runs on four hits without a walk while striking out 10.
Hunter Renfro gave the Brewers some insurance with his first homer of the year and just the third hit of the game.
Devin Williams bounced back from three sub-par outings to retire the side in order in the 8th and Josh Hader did his thing in the 9th recording his 5th save of the year. The Brewers (7-5) move into second in the NL Central and will go for the series sweep with Brandon Woodruff on the hill Wednesday afternoon.
