BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ) — April is Wisconsin Missing Persons Awareness Month, and an event this Saturday aims to raise awareness of the hundreds of missing persons in Wisconsin.
Marsha Loritz is the Director of Wisconsin Missing Persons Advocacy, which is putting on the Annual Missing Persons Awareness Event.
“The hope is to raise awareness, first of all, that there are a lot of missing persons in Wisconsin, and a lot of missing persons in Brown County,” said Loritz.
The event features a collage of missing persons, guest speakers, a demonstration from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and search and rescue teams, a silent auction, and tips on keeping kids and adults safe.
It’s more than just an academic interest for Loritz: she’s the daughter of Victoria Prokopovitz, a missing Pulaski woman.
“My mom has been missing for nine years,” Loritz told WTAQ. “When I found myself in this situation, I didn’t have a lot of support, and I saw quite the need.”
Last year, James Prokopovitz was sentenced for Victoria’s murder. No body was ever found.
It’ll be held from 1-4 PM at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
