The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams wrapped up regular season play over the weekend with victories they hope to parlay into the Horizon League Conference tournaments this week.
The GB men put an end to their 11 game losing streak by finishing with a 67-41 victory at IUPUI on Saturday. It was their best defensive effort of the season. Kamari McGee led the way with 13 points while Emmanuel Ansong added 11. Will Ryan’s second season ended with a record of 5-24, 4-16 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix finished 11th in the 12 team conference and will open the tournament with a first round game at 6th seeded Detroit Mercy on Tuesday night.
The Lady Phoenix held off Cleveland State 66-64 in their finale in Ohio Saturday. GB led by 11 going into the 4th quarter and held off the Vikings rally to finish in third place. Hailey Oskey put up 28 points for the Phoenix who will take a record of 18-6, 14-4 in the Horizon into the tournament this week. The top four seeds all receive a first round bye and Green Bay will play host to a quarterfinal matchup Thursday night at the Kress Center.
