APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of S. Weimar Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday for a fire they say appeared to be caused by improper disposal of fire pit ashes.
When they arrived, smoke and flames were visible near the back of the home.
No one was inside the home when crews arrived and no one was hurt.
The fire was put out within 15 minutes.
Officials estimate the fire caused roughly $60,000 worth of damages to the home.
The American Red Cross is helping the four people displaced, which were two adults and two children.
The Appleton Fire Department sends a reminder to residents to place the coals from your grill or fire pit in a metal can after soaking the ashes with water.
