GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay’s school board president says he’s done with social media after his family’s safety was compromised based on what people gathered from Facebook.
It’s tied to a post that specifically calls out board president Eric Vanden Heuvel and other officials responsible for mask mandates.
“Unfortunately, I will be deactivating my school board and personal social media accounts indefinitely,” Vanden Heuvel posted on his school board account. “Recently, the safety of my family was compromised based upon information people were able to gather on Facebook. I play many different roles in my personal and professional life, but being a husband and father will always come first.”
FOX 11 has learned VandenHeuvel’s concern stems from a Facebook post that has been shared to several groups. The post includes pictures of VandenHeuvel, unmasked at outdoor sporting events with his family. The post also includes contact information for VandenHeuvel from the school district’s website.
“PLEASE SHARE EVERYWHERE,” reads the beginning of the post. “Why is the Green Bay President of the board of education out living his best life. As of August 21st he was fine with being in a football stadium all while voting to mask our children?”
The post ends with encouraging people to start filming and watching local leaders.
“Watch, film and share their posts and daily movements when you see them,” the post reads. “Owners and leaders of businesses that are for the mandates. Owners and leaders in hospitals that are for the mandates. Leaders in politics & Leaders in schools and police stations and government buildings. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH of the hypocrisy.”
The person who posted about VandenHeuvel made a similar, but separate post, directed at Andrew Becker, who is also on Green Bay’s school board.
“If someone is in public and wants to film if I’m wearing a mask or not, do what you’ve got to do, but I think people who are looking for what I’m doing with masks are just going to be really bored,” said Becker.
Becker tells FOX 11 he follows mask rules and despite the passion people have about masks in schools, has no concerns moving forward.
“In my experience, no one has crossed the line.”
FOX 11 also sent a message to the person who made the posts. He says he doesn’t condone violence and wasn’t threatening Vanden Heuvel or his family.
He says he could have worded the message better and his intention is to call local leaders out on their hypocrisy.
