GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Starting November, free COVID-19 testing will be available to all Green Bay Area Public Schools.
In order to do the testing, a parent or guardian must sign a consent form with the district.
Note, if you need your child’s student ID number or have any difficulty, please contact the help desk at servicedesk@gbaps.org or call 920-448-2148.
Once the consent form is signed and received, students presented with COVID symptoms during the school day, can receive a free diagnostic PCR test, administered by a school nurse. Test results can be received within 24-48 hours, depending testing timelines of labs.
This will help in the quarantine process. The district says if an unvaccinated student is exhibiting COVID symptoms, but has not had a close contact, a negative PCR test would allow the student to return to school, should the student not have a fever, diarrhea or vomiting. Vaccinated students who are symptomatic without a close contact would be able to stay in school.
The district’s announcement came as U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced it will continue recommending children wear masks in school going into the winter months even if COVID-19 vaccines are approved for more school-age children. The White House on Wednesday also announced plans to facilitate vaccinations for children ages 5-11, anticipating approval would come for that group soon.
