STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A new K-9 officer can join the Door County Sheriff’s Office, thanks to a donation made by a couple.
The campaign to bring two K-9 officers to the Door County Sheriff’s Office began in late August.
Officials are hoping the additions will help fill a void in the sheriff’s office after K-9 deputy Odinn passed away in June.
Thanks to Mike and Marge McCoy, the department can fully fund and train new K-9 deputy, Leo.
Leo will work with Deputy Matt Tassoul, who was Odinn’s handler.
“Having a K9 unit in Door County again has proven to be such an asset for the Sheriff’s Office and our community. I look forward to working with Leo to fulfill the mission of the Sherriff’s office and keep our community safe.”
The campaign will continue to raise money for the second K-9 officer.
