APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Georgia-based Neenah, Inc. announced Friday it is closing its Appleton facility. The move is among operational changes the paper manufacturer is making, according to a news release.
“Closing a facility is always a difficult decision and not one we take lightly,” Neenah, Inc. President and CEO Julie Schertell said in the release. “This decision is not a reflection of our employees or their efforts, as the team has consistently worked hard to overcome obstacles, improve safety and drive results. We’ll continue to provide innovative filtration solutions and serve customers from our other manufacturing facilities in Europe and North America.”
The company says it will lose $50 million in closure costs, but the move will improve its earnings by more than $7 million a year.
According to the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce economic development division’s website, the facility employs about 100 people.
The facility is expected to close by the end of September. No information on the number of employees effected was released.
Neenah, Inc. operates several other mills across the county, and a few globally.
The facility isn’t the first of its kind to close in the Fox Valley. Clearwater Paper Corporation announced last month the indefinite closure of its paper mill in Neenah. Clearwater Paper’s closure effected nearly 300 employees.
The company produced private brand tissue products for commercial and retail customers.
The Fox Valley Workforce Development Board did host a job fair for Clearwater employees. There is no word yet if the same will be done for Neenah Incorporated employees.
