GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An 18-year-old was convicted Monday in connection with a drunk driving crash that landed a passenger in the Fox River.
Ayne Valle-Nunez pleaded no contest to injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle for the May 25, 2020 crash. Five other counts were dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 20.
According to the criminal complaint, one of the injured passengers told police several people were at a friend’s house drinking from about 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. May 25. They left, picked up a friend, and drove to the Fox River to watch the sunrise. They stayed about an hour, finished a bottle of tequila, and when they left, Valle-Nunez lost control of the vehicle while on the Nitschke Main Street Bridge.
Two passengers were ejected. One landed on the bridge, while another landed in the Fox River and was rescued.
At the hospital, “Anye stated she had been drinking. She stated she had been drinking approximately 2 shots of tequila, a couple of shots, and then later 2 shots,” the complaint states.
Valle-Nunez was 17 at the time of the crash. In Wisconsin, those ages 17 and older are charged in adult court.
