MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A preliminary hearing for a Two Rivers murder suspect was postponed Friday, as he wants to hire a private attorney to represent him.
Joshua Walcott, 19, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the May 17 shooting of Malachi Moore during an argument at a home.
Walcott has an attorney appointed by the public defender’s office, but he told the judge he wants to hire someone. As a result, the hearing was postponed until July 29.
Judge Jerilyn Dietz did not allow the current attorney to leave the case until Walcott finds an attorney, however.
In the complaint prosecutors allege Walcott and Moore were arguing over who made more money. A witness said the argument grew more intense and the two were getting in each other’s faces. The witness said Walcott grabbed a gun from on top of a dresser and began waving it around, eventually firing the shot that killed Moore.
