GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With more people eligible, some are wondering whether businesses will require a vaccination. While companies can require employees to get it, many are leaving the decision to their workers.
When it comes to getting the Covid-19 vaccine, health officials are turning to businesses to help get Wisconsin closer to herd immunity.
“Holding clinics at work sites, encouraging employees to be vaccinated so we can come back to work in our regular settings,” said Julie Willems Van Dijk, Wisconsin Health services Deputy Secretary. “The encouragement of employers will be very important.”
Pick-n-Save is encouraging its employees to get the vaccine, and it’s offering an incentive to do so.
In a statement, Pick-n-Save told Fox 11 , “to further encourage the health and safety of our associates, we are offering a one-time payment of $100 to those associates who receive both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.”
If Pick-n-Save workers are unable to get the vaccine for medical or religious reasons, employees can take a health safety course to receive the $100 dollars.
Other local businesses, like Terry’s EZ-GO won’t require the shot. Instead, owner Terry Caymberg tells FOX 11 he will leave it up to his employees.
“If they need help to schedule it or need time off to go get the shot I’ll work with them that way.”
Kate Bruns, Vice President of Marketing and Communications with the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce tells FOX 11 this has been a period of lots of questions from businesses.
“There’s no road map, there’s no blueprint for how to handle this so they’re giving us their questions.”
Bruns says employers are just looking for the right information to provide their workers on the vaccine.
“When you look at how employers are wanting to help employees one make it easy for them and two reduce the barriers for them to get the vaccine.”
The Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce highly recommends checking out the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation for more information on the vaccine.
