MADISON, WI (WRN) – Republicans on the State Building Commission voted Wednesday to reject every project proposed in Governor Tony Evers’ capital budget.
That means debate on the 2.4 billion dollar proposal could come later in the state budget process.
In a statement, the Democratic governor said “It’s disappointing but not surprising that once again Republicans have decided to play politics instead of putting people and our economic recovery first.”
Republicans on the Building Commission also rejected Evers’ entire 2.5 billion dollar capital budget two years ago, but months later Republican legislators did approve a 1.7 billion dollar capital budget.
Evers’ latest capital budget includes $1 billion worth of projects at the University of Wisconsin System.
