GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — You need to start watching for kids in school zones again.
It’s been more than 11 months since Green Bay drivers have had to slow down to 15 mph in school zones, and while that may feel like you’re hardly moving at all, that’s also the point, says Police Commander Kevin Warych.
“Where kids were not last week, they are today,” Warych told WTAQ. “We need to ensure that we are doing everything to keep students and staff safe around schools.”
School zone and traffic enforcement was supposed to be the number one priority of the Green Bay Police Department last year.
“2021 is the year of the traffic,” said Warych. “When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was like the world stopped…but we are bringing back ‘Slow Down Green Bay.'”
Traffic related complaints are the most frequent complaints the department deals with every year.
