GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – There are always a lot of moving parts when it comes to planning a wedding, and adding a pandemic to the mix doesn’t make things any easier. 35% of couples who had upcoming weddings have postponed to 2021 or later.
That said, many couples have proven that with a little ingenuity, flexibility, and a few precautions, it is possible to pull off a beautiful and safe wedding, even in the face of extremely challenging circumstances.
Safety precautions, rescheduling, and juggling vendors and guests…on top of the biggest day of your life? Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau says it can be hard to keep everyone in the loop.
“Under normal circumstances planning a wedding is a very complicated. There are a lot of moving parts. Throw COVID-19 into the mix, and it gets even more complicated,” Bach told WTAQ News. “Start that planning process even earlier than under normal circumstances…Things might happen where you have to suddenly reschedule or cancel.”
The BBB has a number of tips for couples who are trying to navigate plans for the perfect day. Bach says to start with the basics.
“It’s really important to check out to the local guidelines when it comes to COVID restrictions. What is happening where you’re planning on hosting the celebration?” Bach said. “Always read through contracts. That is true under any circumstance, but it’s even more important now because you want to make sure that you and your vendors are on the same page when it comes to cancellation and rescheduling.”
It’s also important to have a Plan B. Backup plans can come in handy to help you celebrate the big day, even if something changes last-minute.
“Communication between all of these moving parts is a really important, especially during COVID. Make sure that you have someone who’s a good communicator, and that you’re all on the same page when it comes to how you’re going to keep everyone safe,” Bach said. “Have a COVID plan, discuss it with your venue and your vendors to see how everyone is going to be kept safe throughout the event. It’s also really important to share that information with your guests…They may be very hesitant to attend your ceremony without knowing that information in advance.”
And while all of it might be stressful, Bach encourages everyone to stay positive. For more information and tips on ways to make your wedding day planning easier, head to BBB.org.
