WAUTOMA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A settlement has apparently been reached in a civil wrongful death lawsuit related to the death of a girl struck by a vehicle while waiting to get on a school bus.
Maryana Kranz, 6, was killed outside her Plainfield home Feb. 10 while waiting for the bus. A pickup truck, allegedly driven by Carl Mullenix, drove on the right side of the bus, hitting Maryana and her sister.
Kranz’s parents filed a civil suit against Mullenix, seeking damages.
A trial had been scheduled for May 10-11, but according to a new court filing, the parents’ attorney filed a letter with the court regarding an “agreement for division of settlement funds.” The judge then removed the trial from his calendar.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The case has not been formally dismissed yet, however.
Mullenix returns to criminal court Feb. 2 on a status conference on a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. No trial date has been set.
