GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three people are displaced after an apartment fire in Grand Chute.
Crews were called to the 300 block of South Kools Street around 10:40 p.m. Thursday for reports from several people seeing smoke inside the building.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke in the first-floor hallway.
Firefighters put out the fire using a water extinguisher in about 10 minutes after arriving. They used a second extinguisher to put out any remaining hot spots. The building was aired out, and extra fire units were sent back.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The amount of damage is not known yet.
Three people who lived in the affected apartment had to leave their home, but all other residents were allowed to return to the building. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced. No one was injured.
Following the fire, the Grand Chute Fire Department reminds everyone to leave a building right away if a fire alarm goes off. Closing doors as you leave can help slow the spread of fire and smoke. Never go back inside until firefighters say it is safe.
