BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ) – Two bus-loads of Trump supporters returned to the Green Bay area Thursday morning, after spending their Wednesday at the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally in Washington D.C.
But even after a pair of 14 hour bus rides and a full day of rallying in the cold, there was still a bit of energy as local Trump supporters arrived home.
“Just a sea of people, it was just wonderful. People were chanting, people were cheering, and it was just a beautiful thing to see,” said Nancy Lemay. “It was just so positive and uplifting. Our purpose there was to make sure that those in Washington heard our voice, because we have the feeling they’re not listening.”
“I don’t even feel tired. I haven’t slept hardly at all since Monday night and I feel great…It was a wonderful experience being with like-minded people. Very encouraging to see all the patriotic Americans behind our great President Trump,” Melanie told WTAQ News. “It was inspiring to look down every street, and as far as you could see in front of you and behind you, packed with people. And you knew they were all on the same page.”
“Everywhere we stopped, we met people from and from everywhere. That’s what was so exhilarating, that people drove from everywhere to be a part of this history in the making,” said one supporter.
“It just rejuvenates you, and you’re with like-minded people that you don’t know. Your friends and family won’t listen to what you’re saying, and you only want better things for everyone on the planet. You want this love, you want this peace, this harmony…You’re with these people, and it’s like, this is like family,” another supporter said. “The masses of people are good. There’s a few corrupt ones. Those few corrupt ones are doing whatever they can to hold onto their power, and they know they’re on the way out because we the people will not stand for it anymore.”
The group we spoke with showed us pictures of the day, including fairly close, good spots to watch President Trump speak to the crowd. They then walked towards the Capitol building, but say they stayed mostly on the lawn on the Washington Monument side and didn’t get too close to most of the action.
“We did see some people that were up on the balconies or tiers of the Capitol building, on the outside. I don’t know how they got there, but most of us were just on the lawn,” Lemay said. “We didn’t see any chaos, we didn’t see any rioting at all. It was loud and boisterous, but it was very uplifting and we love President Trump and we just wanted to support him.”
While things did intensify throughout the day and the Capitol building was breached by a number of protesters, those we spoke to didn’t see anything get too far out of hand.
“We didn’t see any kind of disruption or rioting. Everyone was smiling and getting along. We’re all there for the same reason, because we love our country and because we want to stand for truth,” Melanie said. “We heard some sirens, didn’t really know what was going on. We’ve seen footage of people walking into the capitol and police standing at their posts, no rioting. We’re not sure where that happened.”
They also backed theories that the people who made it into the building itself weren’t truly Trump supporters. Those theories have not been officially confirmed.
“Before we even got there, we had been warned that Antifa was planning to dress like Trump supporters and infiltrate all of the gatherings,” Lemay said. “They definitely were looking more like Antifa than any Trump supporter you’ve ever seen.”
The local group tried to get out of town before the sun went down, which means they ultimately heard the news of the Congressional certification of votes while trekking back through somewhere like Ohio or Indiana.
But even with that, they’re still backing Trump through-and-through.
“It’s discouraging, but when you have faith in God, you know he’s got a hand in this. And he’s not done yet,” Lemay said. “We don’t know what the outcome is going to be, but we know that God is not done yet. We’re excited and looking forward to seeing however this turns out.”
“I think it’s fraud. I think it’s people putting on a show. It’s not the truth,” another supporter said.
“We need to overturn or this country will be in a death spin. If truth doesn’t come out and the Democrats take power, we’re done for,” Melanie added.
As the results currently stand, Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States on Wednesday, January 20th.
