CHILTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man charged after police seized more than a dozen animals from his home died last week.
Kyle Komp, 21, had pleaded not guilty to 15 charges in Calumet County, including mistreatment of animals causing death. A judge formally dismissed the charges Tuesday, court records show.
Komp, who also faced drug possession charges, “lost his battle with addiction,” according to an obituary. He died Nov. 26.
“For those who truly knew Kyle, they immediately recognized that he would be the one to give the clothes off his back to a friend in need and the one who tried to save every homeless animal. He had a big heart for those less fortunate and would do anything for anyone. Kyle suffered from addiction, a disease he struggled with for many years. While he was unable to overcome that battle, he was a fierce and persistent fighter who lived every day of his life as fully as he could. An addict is fighting an uphill battle. As loved ones, we intervene and do what we can to show tough love and help them out of their agony. We do not want him defined by his addiction, but rather remembered as the Kyle we knew and loved,” the obituary states.
Services are planned for this weekend.
Police were called to the home for a disturbance and then discovered the menagerie. Police say they seized the following animals:
- 2 snakes (6-7-foot snake and a 3-foot snake)
- 4 rabbits
- 1 crocodile
- 4 ducks
- 1 chicken
- 2 guinea pigs
- 1 larger lizard
- Assortment of lizards and frogs
- 1 black scorpion
- 1 dog
- Various fish
