GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For the first time this season, some Packers fans were able to watch the game from inside the stadium.
For lifelong Packers fan Tim Schroeder, he feels blessed to have this opportunity.
“To sit here and cheer the team on and hopefully get behind them and show them our excitement.”
The Packers welcomed a few hundred team employees and their families into Lambeau on Sunday.
With more fans came additional safety measures.
“On each side of the stadium, we’ve got gates and signage, directional indications, it really will help people maintain distancing and keep them from crossing too close together,” Packers Director of Public Affairs Aaron Popkey said in a press conference Friday.
Fan Zander Ansel tells FOX 11 COVID-19 protocols were easy to follow.
“Wear my mask and walk through and follow the signs and everyone. All the directions are pretty simple. I just tried to follow through like normal.”
“I feel very comfortable with everything that was laid out for us and their precautions and again, our responsibilities as fans is to social distance and enjoy the game at the same time,” Schroeder said.
The Packers also had attendants stationed inside the bowl to make sure fans kept their masks on and stayed socially distant.
Popkey tells FOX 11 Packer healthcare partners and area health departments hope to show there are safe ways to hold events like this.
“We still have a spread that’s taking place. We’ve talked about the ways to stop the spread, and minimize the risk of spread. We’re going to use this game as another way to demonstrate the safe ways of doing that.”
Ansel says being there is a bit different, but he hopes the energy remains the same.
“It’s weird to see no fans shoulder to shoulder next to each other. I think it’s going to be a lot different with chants and everyone cheering but I hope to feel the same energy as I normally do.”
No word yet on if the Packers will welcome ticketed fans into games the remainder of this season.
