GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Things have been kind of smokey this week in Wisconsin.
While the weather reports may read “clear” everyone who has looked outside the past few days knows it’s been anything but. Smoke from the wildfires raging on the west coast have held above Wisconsin for the past several days.
“It’s impact on us is that it makes the daytime look like it’s cloudy,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Rich Mamrosh. “It also gives us some pretty spectacular sunrises and sunsets.”
The smoke will be clearing up a bit this week, however. A cold front moving through the area today is likely to break up the smoke over the next couple of days…but it’s expected to return.
“For the next day or two the air will be clearer, but we will likely get back into the smoke again over the next couple of days,” said Mamrosh.
The good news is that the smoke doesn’t really have any negative effect, and won’t as long as it doesn’t drop towards the surface, where it could impact visibility and air quality.
Mamrosh says we should expect atmospheric smoke for as long as the fires keep burning.
