OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Dozens of people ran and threw colored powder at each other in Oconto for a good cause.
They gathered at Holtwood Sporting Complex for the second-annual Lincoln James Breath of Life Color Burst 5K.
Some of the participants ran or jogged, while others walked.
When all participants finished, everyone threw colored powder at each other.
The event is held in honor of organizer Angelina Belongia’s son, Lincoln, who nearly died two years ago of respiratory failure.
Belongia’s family went to the Oconto Fire and Rescue Department where they performed life-saving chest compressions on him, before taking him to a hospital.
Belongia says, “I can’t even put into words how thankful we are for our community and for those guys behind us, because, without them, we would be having a completely different conversation today.”
All of the money raised for today’s event goes to the Oconto Fire and Rescue Department, the Oconto Police Department, Bellin Health in Oconto, and HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital in Green Bay.
