OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Bradley Boettcher was committed Thursday to a state psychiatric hospital after being convicted of killing his mother, but then was declared not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Boettcher, 36, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the Feb. 20, 2019, death of Lee Ann Dorn at her Appleton apartment. The charge was lowered to second-degree intentional homicide at a plea hearing earlier this week. After both the prosecutor and defense agreed to the findings of a psychiatrist’s report, Boettcher was found not guilty by reason of mental disease.
On Thursday, Winnebago County Judge John Jorgenson placed Boettcher in the care of the state Dept. of Health Services.
Dorn was killed in February and Boettcher was arrested the next day in Kentucky, but charges were not filed until September.
