GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The City of Green Bay has been awarded a $6.4 million grant to support public transit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant is part of a national Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act established in March.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the funds will be used to support public transit operating, administrative, and preventative maintenance costs during the pandemic.
“These federal funds will support operating assistance to transit agencies of all sizes providing essential travel and supporting transit workers across the country who are unable to work because of the public health emergency,” U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Tranist Administration Deputy Administrator K. Jane Williams said in a news release.
A total of $25 billion in grant funds is being awarded nationally, according to the release.
