GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Just a couple of days ago Rick Chernick came up with an idea.
“The room sits empty most of the time, why don’t we use it for something good,” Rick Chernick said.
He’s the CEO of Camera Corner Connecting Point in downtown Green Bay. He’s got a big, empty meeting room and lots of technology.
As thousands of students gear up for online classes, a lot of parents can’t work from home.
Chernick tells FOX 11 he wants to use the tech retailer’s empty conference rooms for parents to bring their kids to work, safely.
“We’ll bring the kids here, have their parents come back to work, and we’ll have their curriculum handled. We have all the technology, we have the seating, we’ll space it out and we’ll try to make it happen.”
Meanwhile, local medical professionals are looking at the possibilities.
“My position at Bellin is having a team that works with the community,” said vice president of business and community health, Randy Van Straten.
While bringing kids to work isn’t an option for everyone, Van Straten has this advice for employers who can make it work.
“They need to obviously follow the protocols that are out there. The six foot of distancing, the face masking.”
Like almost everything with the coronavirus pandemic these are new issues. Some schools still haven’t released their reopening plans.
It’s why Van Straten tells FOX 11 there are several options on the table.
“Flexible work schedules, split shifts, maybe offering assistance where needed with tutoring, helping parents be better tutors for their children.”
As for next steps, Chernick says he’ll continue to work with superintendents and healthcare professionals, to turn these meeting rooms into classrooms.
