ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers have likely found a solution to a problem they see created by the Resch Expo center being constructed.
The Packers are concerned that people could spy on their practices because of how visible the Clark Hinkle Field is from the second floor at the Expo center.
The new proposal is a 33 foot tall, retractable, screening system. The screens will be on the North end of Hinkle Field, lining Armed Forces Drive.
Village of Ashwaubenon Community Development Director Aaron Schuette tells FOX 11 when practices are closed, the screens will be up.
“The biggest improvement is it can raise or lower. This way when the Packers do have a practice going on that is closed they can raise the screen and it won’t have any impact.”
The Packers initially proposed a 14 foot wall, in addition to the existing 8 foot fence, to block the view. This plan was opposed by Village of Ashwaubenon committees.
Schuette said “we understand we have our own goals and our own needs. At the same time its a partnership to make sure we’ve successful and they’re successful at the same time.”
Village committees opposed the idea of putting a wall that would block the view of the $93 million facility.
Schuette says this plan is different.
“I would anticipate a good outcome for the Packers based on planning commission and site committee, but the village does have ultimate approval of the action.”
The team reacted, saying, “The Packers appreciate the assistance and guidance of the village staff in helping with the project. We also thank the site plan review committee and the plan commission for their thoughtful input.”
The plan will go to Village Board for final approval on July 28th.
