GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay city council made several approvals in regards to the upcoming elections in August and November.
The most noteworthy includes the use of 17 polling locations. This is up from last spring’s polling locations of only two.
Typically, the city offers 31 locations.
13 locations have previously been used. The additional four include; Danz Elementary School, Keller Elementary School, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and the former Sears store on Military Ave.
A request was also made to Green Bay Public Schools. The council is requesting the board discuss the possibility of using its four high schools as polling locations.
Mayor Eric Genrich acknowledged the Ad Hoc Election Committee’s efforts to increase polling locations from just two during April’s election.
“Ideally we would still have 31 locations but I think these locations are going to meet the needs of our voters in August. And I think we all learned how hard it is to designate these locations so I just want to give a lot of credit to those involved in making that happen.”
As for bringing the beach back to Bay Beach, that is still being decided.
The city council voted to take it back to the parks committee. Previously, the parks committee referred it to the council after a motion to table the project failed 2-2.
There have been concerns of starting the project with high water levels on the bay. Along with lack of money for the project.
Alderperson, Randy Scannell says the parks director is working on bringing the plan back with some changes.
“I had a talk with our director, park director, and he thinks he’s got a plan that will be a little different as far as staging things in that will meet everyone’s concerns and needs on this. He just needs a little more time to flush that out.”
The parks committee will revisit this at their July 15 meeting.
