WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) – A deer hunter found shot to death near Spencer in central Wisconsin has been identified as 50-year-old Mark Bychinski.
State DNR Hunter Education Coordinator Jon King says the victim was found at the base of a tree.
His rifle was found hanging nearby on a rope that was apparently used to move the gun in and out of a tree stand. Bychinski died at the scene.
Authorities were called there Sunday night, almost 4 hours after the state’s nine-day gun deer season officially ended. An autopsy was performed Monday.
Officials are waiting for toxicology test results to finalize the cause of death, but the DNR says Bychinski is the state’s third fatal shooting victim this season.
The DNR is expected to release deer harvest totals Tuesday. More than 192,000 deer were registered in the first 8 days of the hunt — more than in all 9 days a year ago.
