DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Cornerstone Community Center is skating into the final stretch of its expansion project.
At a naming reveal ceremony Friday, officials formally introduced the Donald and Patricia Schneider Family Arena and provided guided tours to those in attendance. It will be Cornerstone’s fourth ice rink, with 3,000 spectator seats in the 65,000-square-foot space.
“Cornerstone is a community asset as a large employer in the area. It’s a great draw for our employees and for people that are in the area. We strongly believe in health and wellness, and what better facility to be able to encourage that,” said Paul Schneider, a representative for the Schneider family.
Officials say the new arena will help accommodate the growing demand for on-ice community sports programs in the area and expand offerings for youth, high school, college and adult athletes.
With their fourth ice rink, CCC will also be able to attract larger regional and national hockey and ice skating events and tournaments, which will in turn boost local tourism.
“Each national hockey event brings an estimated $5 million in economic impact to the greater Green Bay area, and that figure only multiplies the more events we bring,” said Stephanie Dutkowski, a member of the a CCC board of directors and former president of the Green Bay Area Youth Hockey Association.
As construction moves forward, Cornerstone Community Center is launching the public phase of its “Grow the ‘Stone” fundraising campaign. $20 million of their $23 million goal was raised during the CCC’s initial fundraising phase. Now, they’re asking for the community’s help in securing the final $3 million needed for the project.
“The campaign kick-off had a lot of energy. We’ve had a lot of community support, but we need to get just a little bit more to make it across the finish line,” Schneider said.
“Your continued support empowers us to create meaningful opportunities for our community through sports, recreation and competition, and we are deeply grateful,” added Dutkowski.
The new arena is set to open in fall 2026.
