WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Tony Haase again denied involvement in the murders of Tanna Togstad and Timothy Mumbrue, this time in a civil suit filed by Togstad’s estate. Haase was acquitted of criminal charges by a jury of their 1992 deaths.
A Waupaca County jury reached the not guilty verdicts on Aug. 11. The civil lawsuit was filed Aug. 6 by her family, while the trial was still going on, court records show. It seeks $17 million in damages.
In an 11-page response, filed Thursday, Haase’s attorney denied the allegations and asked for the case to be dismissed.
At trial, Haase suggested his uncle could have been the perpetrator. That’s alluded to in the reply: “Upon information and belief, the Plaintiff’s damages, if any, were caused by the actions or inactions of those from whom the Answering Defendant is not responsible” and “Upon information and belief, the Plaintiff may failed to name the necessary parties to this action.”
No hearings have been scheduled in the case.
