BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Earlier this month, we told you temporary relief had arrived for overworked Brown County 911 dispatchers.
The county hired contract workers from outside the state to help address staffing shortages and forced overtime. Still, the agency has well over a dozen open positions.
During Wednesday night’s Board of Supervisors meeting, several Brown County dispatchers said while the extra help is nice, it’s nowhere near enough.
“Our current state is not only unsustainable, but very concerning to the employees, the police and fire and rescue crews who rely on us, and the citizens of Brown County,” said Heather Patek, lead telecommunicator for Brown County Public Safety.
“This isn’t something we can just, ‘Well geez, if we mope around on this, maybe it’ll fix itself.’ This is something that needs attention quickly, and focused attention to get it fixed,” added Randy Schultz, a former county board supervisor
Chancy Huntzinger is the director of public safety communications for Brown County. She was at Wednesday’s meeting, but didn’t want to make a statement until all public comment was made. Just before 9:30 p.m., the county said it wouldn’t be making a comment at this time.
