WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Larrabee man was convicted of second-degree reckless homicide after causing a person’s death during a sexual encounter.
Darwin Huebner, 71, pleaded no contest to the charge Friday. Huebner was also convicted of two counts of possession of child pornography. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 12, court records show.
A count of sexual assault of an intoxicated victim and other child pornography possession counts were dismissed.
In the reckless homicide case, police were called to the Larrabee home on April 8, 2024, for a report of a death.
According to the criminal complaint, Huebner said he met the victim through an online dating app. They met at a hotel, then returned to his house. The victim then drank whiskey and took several drugs.
At that point, the two engaged in acting out what Huebner described as sexual fantasies, which included toys, choking, and an electronic stun device.
Huebner told police he fell asleep around 2 a.m., waking up at 7 a.m., and noticing the victim was unresponsive, when he called 911. However, police searched his phone and discovered a series of calls, texts and videos during that five-hour window – including a text at 6:03 a.m. stating “Call me ASAP. It’s an emergency,” the complaint states.
