GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay man is accused of stabbing another man with a screwdriver at a downtown park.
Ray Long, 48, faces one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide for the July 16 attack in downtown Green Bay.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police he went out for a smoke. He saw a man who identified himself as “Creeper” motion for the victim to come over. “Creeper” asked the victim if he needed “green,” meaning marijuana. The victim said yes but needed to get cash. He went to an ATM and agreed to meet “Creeper” at Jackson Square Park.
He paid $20 to “Creeper,” who then asked another person to give him half a “ball.” Knowing this was not marijuana, the victim demanded his money back. They got into a fight, which escalated when a woman gave “Creeper” a screwdriver, which he then allegedly used to stab the victim.
The victim, identified only by his initials, was taken to the hospital.
A search of police records tied the nickname “Creeper” to Long, who matched the description the victim gave. Surveillance video from nearby businesses also showed a person matching Long’s description in the area.
The criminal complaint does not include a statement from Long.
