(LEARFIELD/247NEWSSOURCE) – Inside reports suggest Bucks general manager Jon Horst has an “ace up his sleeve” for draft day.
The 2025 NBA Draft starts today at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Sports Illustrated isn’t specific about the steps Horst could take.
Milwaukee’s front office reportedly aims to make its roster younger, which could involve trades that move the team into the first round.
The Bucks face a significant roster turnover this offseason, and it could begin at the draft.
Kneuppel to be a top six pick? Wisconsin native Kon Kneuppel expects to hear his name called – likely today – during the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Milwaukee native played his high school ball at Wisconsin Lutheran High School and was outstanding at Duke.
Kneuppel could go in the top six picks.
Two other Wisconsin natives are UCLA guard Kobe Johnson, who’s from Sun Prairie, and Memphis guard Tyrese Hunter, who’s from Racine.
Both are long shots.
New Orleans and Washington swing a deal: The Pelicans and Wizards made a trade one day prior to the 2025 NBA Draft.
ESPN reports that New Orleans is sending CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey and the 40th overall selection in this year’s draft.
Poole was Washington’s leading scorer this past season with 20.5 points per game and will now team up with Zion Williamson in the Big Easy.
McCollum averaged 21.1 points per game for the lowly Pels and will now join a young Wizards roster.
Boston trades Porzingis: The Hawks are swinging a major deal ahead of the NBA draft.
ESPN reports that Kristaps Porzingis is heading to Atlanta from Boston in a three-team trade also involving Brooklyn.
Georges Niang is going to the Celtics along with a second-round pick while the Nets are getting Terance Mann and the Hawks’ 22nd-overall selection.
Atlanta is also receiving a second-rounder as part of the deal.
Porzingis averaged almost 20 points in 42 games last season.
Irving declines option: Nine-time NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving is planning to stay put in Dallas.
ESPN is reporting that Irving is declining his 43-million-dollar player option and intends to sign a three-year, 119-million-dollar contract with the franchise.
The deal will include a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Irving was limited to 50 games last season after suffering a torn left ACL in March.
He finished the season averaging 24.7 points in his second full season with the Mavs.
