Jeremy Stoll (Fond du Lac Co. Jail)
FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man was sentenced to prison for selling drugs mixed with fentanyl, leading to an overdose death.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney announced Monday that Jeremy Stoll, 43, will spend nine years in prison and 15 years on extended supervision.
Stoll was convicted in February of first-degree reckless homicide, stemming from the June 2022 overdose death of Russell Barton, 37, in the town of Lamartine.
“The deadly effects of fentanyl destroy families and devastate communities. We will continue to aggressively prosecute those that distribute fentanyl and other drugs into our communities, in an effort seek justice for those impacted by the opioid epidemic and to protect the community,” Toney said, in part, in a news release.
An autopsy determined the overdose victim had 45 ng/mL of fentanyl in his blood, as well as cocaine, meth, amphetamine and buprenorphine.
The criminal complaint details a series of messages between Stoll and Barton that referenced drug use and a drug deal. At one point, Stoll indicated the heroin he had was strong and he didn’t want to sell it to Barton at first, but Stoll ended up meeting Barton and making a sale anyway.
After Barton’s body was found, Stoll sent a message to Barton’s phone saying “wya” — shorthand slang for “where you at?”
Based on other messages found Stoll’s phone, authorities say he knowingly sold drugs he knew were cut with fentanyl and were dangerous.
