DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After decades of talk, the South Bridge Connector Project is breaking ground.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach, along with area leaders, held a groundbreaking ceremony marking the official start of the South Bridge Connector Project Tuesday at the corner of Packerland Drive (County Highway EB) and Scheuring Road (County Highway F).
Project Segment 1, also known as EB-39, consists of constructing a roundabout and connecting County Highway F to the west of the new Interstate 41 interchange, and Lawrence Drive to the east.
Project Segment 2, also known as GV-14, consists of constructing County Highway GV from French Road to Lawrence Drive, ultimately connecting County Highways EB and GV to Interstate 41.
The big part of this development is the new bridge over the Fox River, which should be done in 2027.
Other phases of the project are:
- EB-39 (County Highway F to Mid Valley Drive) construction in 2025-2026
- GV-15 (Lawrence Drive to County Highway D) construction in 2028-2030
- GV-17 (State Highway 32/57 to County Highway PP) construction in 2028
- GV-14 (Innovation Court to Lawrence Drive) construction in 2025
- GV-16 (County Highway D to State Highway 32/57) construction in 2028-2029
- GV-18 (County Highway PP to County Highway GV/X) construction in 2028-2029
The entire South Bridge Connector project is estimated to cost about $180 million using, federal, state and local money. It’s expected to be completed by 2030.
