FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The suspect in a homicide during an argument about a drug deal was convicted of lesser charges Tuesday.
Annaka Trudell, 21, was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide – use of a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in the February 2024 stabbing death of Ashley Calo. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced the convictions Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Calo was killed while Trudell was trying to buy 57 Percocet pills for $250-$500. Calo, 33, was found dead inside a car after crashing near W. Follett and N. Main streets. Calo’s 3-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time. The child was not physically harmed.
“This is a devastating example of the dangers of drug addiction, illustrating that addiction is not a victimless crime, with a woman dead and her young child left without a mother,” Toney said in a statement. “We will continue our efforts to aggressively work with our law enforcement partners to fight drug and violent crime in our community.”
Also charged in the case is Dawson Miller, who faces felony murder, armed robbery and other counts. He has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 6.
According to the criminal complaint, police determined Trudell and Miller had made arrangements to buy drugs from Calo, but planned to rob her instead.
No sentencing date has been set for Trudell. She returns to court July 25 for a status conference.
