CHILTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There’s been great progress at Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton over the past month after taking in 70 dogs in need of extensive care.
Animal caregiver Akaiye Schmidt is looking at the next steps.
“We’re really focused right now on getting everybody medical care,” he said. “We finally got ownership of the dogs, from the courts and all that. That whole process was a process. So we’re focused on everybody going to the vets. We have multiple vet clinics that are scheduled.”
Schmidt says they’ve received a massive amount of help from the community, including heaps of donations and hundreds of volunteers coming out to help the dogs.
“We’re grateful for that because with all the dogs we have here, it’s important to have that kind of help,” he said. “We only have like, four or five paid employees here, so we wouldn’t have been able to facilitate the kind of care they needed without the volunteers coming to help.”
The shelter said that along with cleaning items and dog food, they also received donations of hundreds of sweaters to keep the dogs warm during the cold winter nights.
