MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Jesse Vang pleaded not guilty Monday to charges related to the death of Elijah Vue, 3.
No trial date was set. Prosecutors have until Feb. 7 to make Vang a plea offer. As of now, the next court date will be a scheduling conference on March 13.
Vang was caring for Vue when he reporting the boy missing in February. The boy’s remains were found in September. He faces four counts including physical abuse of a child, repeated acts causing death and hiding a corpse for the death.
Katrina Baur, the boy’s mother, placed Vue with Vang. She also is charged in the case, and returns to court Feb. 12.
Vang reported the child missing in February. Baur and Vang were both jailed on child neglect charges soon after. Prosecutors said Baur sent her son to stay with Vang, her boyfriend, for “disciplinary reasons.”
In September, a man preparing his land for hunting season found human remains on private property in Manitowoc County. The remains were later confirmed to be those of Vue.
Doctors who examined the boy’s remains determined the toddler suffered from physical abuse, psychological and emotional maltreatment, as well as neglect. Healed fractures on Vue’s skull and face were also found by doctors.
