(UW ATHLETICS) NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A power-play goal from Simon Tassy with 35 seconds left in the second period lifted the Wisconsin men’s hockey team past the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2-1, on Saturday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.
With the win, the Badgers return to Madison with their first conference victory of the year and sit tied for second place in the Big Ten with five points in four games played.

Notre Dame (5-3-0, 1-1-0 Big Ten) responded with 7:34 left in the period to tie the game at one. With 35 seconds left in the frame, Simon Tassy scored his first goal of the season, on the power play to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead. The score remained the same until the final buzzer sounded.
How it Happened
The first period was quiet, with neither team officially finding the back of the net. Wisconsin scored five minutes into the period, with Tyson Dyck looking like he had his first Badger goal, but it was called back due to the puck never fully crossing the goal line.
The Badgers got on the board first 5:34 into the second period. Freshman defenseman Weston Knox passed up the neutral zone to junior forward Kyle Kukkonen at the left side of the Irish blue line. Kukkonen rushed into the zone before making a long pass to meet graduate student forward Lindmark in the middle of the right circle. Lindmark then ripped a shot home to score his second goal of the weekend and the season.
Notre Dame responded with 7:34 left in the middle frame after Ryan Helliwell beat UW goaltender Tommy Scarfone.
Junior forward Tassy scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds remaining in the second. Junior defenseman Ben Dexheimer passed from across the blue line to junior forward Christian Fitzgerald who was waiting on the left side. Fitzgerald skated to the top of the left circle and took a shot, which Tassy, who was stationed in front of ND goaltender Owen Say, redirected into the net to record his first goal of the season.
Neither team lit the lamp again in the third period. Wisconsin took a penalty with 3:21 remaining in the final frame but killed it off to emerge victorious with a final score of 2-1.
Wisconsin went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. UW finished the contest with a 35-23 advantage in shots on goal.
