(LEARFIELD) – Reports indicate two injured Packers defensive backs could be available when their team meets the Detroit Lions Sunday.
All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander suffered an apparent knee injury on the game’s last play against the Jaguars. ESPN reports an MRI ruled out any significant damage.
Cheesehead TV reports safety Evan Williams could also play against the Lions despite suffering a hamstring injury.
A Packers rookie making more of an impact: In Sunday’s win over the Jackson Jaguars, Packers rookie linerbacker Edgerin Cooper had a strip sack and put pressure on the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence on blitzes.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur talked about that LaFleur’s game.
LaFleur continued to talk about Cooper and said.
While this sounds great, LaFleur said that that are some things Cooper still has to get better at.
Last year, the Packers had rookies playing and they dealt with the growing pains, only to see big improvement in the second half of the season. LaFleur was asked if Cooper an example of that.
It would come in handy if Cooper continues his impressive play this Sunday against a Detroit Lions team that put up 52 points against Tennessee last Sunday.
Roster move: The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Jamin Davis to the practice squad and released linebacker Chris Russell from the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Tuesday.
Davis (6-3, 234), a fourth-year player, was originally selected by the Washington Commanders in the first round (No. 19 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of the University of Kentucky. He played in 50 games with 36 starts for Washington (2021-24), recording 281 tackles (173 solo), 21 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, 10 QB hits, an interception, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a tackle on special teams.
In 2022, Davis led the team with a career-high 104 tackles while also setting career bests in solo tackles (68), tackles for a loss (nine), fumble recoveries (two), sacks (three, tied in 2023) and QB hits (five). He will wear No. 44 for the Packers.
