(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) VILLANOVA, PENN –Aubrey Hamilton landed a match-high 15 kills to lead the Marquette University women’s volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 sweep of Villanova on Sunday afternoon at Jake Nevin Field House.
“Aubrey started out red-hot and got us through a hard-fought first set,” MU head coach Ryan Theis said. “Jake Nevin Field House is always a tough place to play and I thought everyone performed their role really well to help us win in three sets.”
Hamilton and fellow outside hitter Natalie Ring (12 kills) led the Golden Eagles (9-6, 5-1 BIG EAST), who hit a combined .310 on the afternoon. Middle blocker Hattie Bray notched eight kills on .500 hitting, while Hamilton hit .452 (15-1-31).
Campbell McKinnon led Villanova (11-6, 4-2 BIG EAST) with nine kills and Abby Harrell added eight.
NOTABLE:
- Hamilton led MU in kills for the second time this weekend after a match-best 17 in Friday’s 3-1 win at St. John’s. She’s just eight kills away from becoming the 14th player in Marquette history from reaching 1,000 career kills. The graduate student has 1,503 in her career, including two seasons spent at Notre Dame.
- Setter Yadhira Anchante has a team-best 11 double doubles this season. She posted 33 assists and 13 digs in Sunday’s win.
- Ring made her second start of the season for MU at outside hitter and has boosted her kills per set average to 2.24 per frame on a hitting mark of .242.
- Marquette holds a 25-4 edge in the all-time series, which began when MU entered the BIG EAST for the 2005 campaign.
- MU has won each of the last 12 matches after a five-set loss at Jake Nevin on Oct. 14, 2017.
- In MU’s two wins over Villanova last season, the Golden Eagles hit .440 in the 2023 BIG EAST opener at the Al McGuire Center and and .350 at VU.
