(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s soccer team (4-8-3, 1-3-1 BIG EAST) opened a two-match homestand Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss versus UConn (8-3-3, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) at Valley Fields.
Marquette trailed 2-0 at the intermission after UConn was able to take advantage of its best two opportunities of the opening half. The Golden Eagles had just a pair of shots in the first 45 minutes, one on target.
The Huskies finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots, but Marquette concluded with a 7-4 margin in corner kicks, but was unable to create a quality chance from those opportunities.
Senior midfielder Tess O’Connell led the way with three shots, all on goal, and netminder Chloe Olson made three saves on the afternoon.
“I thought UConn did a really good job of taking advantage of its moments,” head coach Chris Allen said. “I thought we generated enough set piece opportunities in the first half, but was disappointed with a lack of intensity and execution in those situations.”
