GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With the November election fast approaching, officials are reminding Wisconsinites to get registered to vote.
In honor of National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Green Bay City Clerk Celestine Jeffreys offered a firsthand look at how quick and easy the process is.
Simply visit the MyVote Wisconsin website. It’s your one-stop-shop for election information and resources.
Wisconsin allows residents to register online to vote. All you need is a Wisconsin state ID or driver’s license that has your current address on it.
You can also register by mail to vote in Wisconsin by printing a voter registration form, filling it out and mailing it to your local election office.
“The beauty of doing this ahead of time is that you’re already in the poll book for election day,” Jeffreys said.
If you’d prefer to register to vote in person, you can do that too, but it will be a bit more time-consuming, Jeffreys warned.
“The other thing about Wisconsin that’s really very voter friendly is that you can register and vote on the same day. Not all states have that,” Jeffreys said. “However, I’m encouraging everyone… to do that ahead of time because presidential elections are busy, and you may be there for a while if you need to do both registration and voting.”
Polls are open on election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be sure to bring your required documents and/or photo ID to register and/or vote.
Jeffreys also encouraged voters to prepare for election day ahead of time by finding your assigned polling place, creating a transportation plan and deciding when in the day will be the best time for you to vote.
In addition to registering to vote, MyVote Wisconsin can help you find your voter info, locate your polling place, see what’s on your ballot, update your name or address, vote absentee in-person or by mail, track your absentee ballot and become a poll worker. Your city’s website may also have more local voting information and resources.
