TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ) — Two Rivers police confirmed Friday afternoon that the skeletal remains found by a deer hunter on private land in Manitowoc County are that of Elijah Vue, the three-year-old child missing from Two Rivers since February.
Two Rivers Police Chief Ben Meinnert made the confirmation during a press briefing on Friday.
“It is with a heavy heart that those remains were identified as Elijah Vue,” said Meinnert. “This is not the outcome we hoped for. The family is devastated. The community is devastated.”
The remains were found on private property by a hunter preparing his land for the season. The area had been searched several times.
No questions were taken during the briefing.
Vue was first reported missing on Feb. 20 by his caregiver, Jesse Vang, the boyfriend of Katrina Baur, Vue’s mother. Prosecutors say Baur sent her son to live with Vang at his Two Rivers apartment for “disciplinary reasons.”
Neither Baur nor Vang have been charged in Vue’s death. Both have been charged with Child Neglect.
