(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a pair of wins in steamy Cincinnati on Friday, winning the opener 5-4 in 10 innings and erupting for 10 runs in the ninth inning of the nightcap to beat the Reds 14-0.
In the opener, the Brewers picked up the win when Sal Frelick grounded into a double play that scored Eric Haase.
Willy Adames and William Contreras each homered for Milwaukee in the opener. Adames hit his 25th home run while Contreras hit his 19th.
Colin Rea started and lasted just 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits.
Trevor McGill pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the win for the Brewers. Devin Williams pitched the tenth inning and got his seventh save.
In the nightcap, DL Hall allowed just 4 hits over 7 innings while striking out 5 to get his first win of the season.
The Brewers who led 4-o after 8 innings erupted for 10 runs in the ninth inning.
Rhys Hoskins singled in Blake Perkins, Willy Adames hit a 3-run home run, Andruw Monasterio hit a run-scoring double, Sal Frelick hit a run-scoring double as did Bryce Turang, Perkins drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Contreras hit a 2-run home run to complete the barrage of runs.
The Brewers who are now 79-56 will face Cincinnati again on Saturday with the pre-game scheduled for 5:40 p.m. with a 7:15 first pitch on 1360 and 97.5 WTAQ.
Frankie Montas who is 6-9 with a 4.64 ERA will get the start for the Brewers.
The Reds will counter with Fernando Cruz who is 3-8 with a 5.17 ERA.
There is about a 50% chance of rain in Cincinnati Saturday with scattered thunderstorms called for. Those storms may include strong gusty winds.
