FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man convicted of bringing a new form of fentanyl into the Fond du Lac area was sentenced to three years in prison.
John Morgano, 59, pleaded no contest Thursday to possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, and maintaining a drug trafficking place. He was also placed on extended supervision for three years, court records show.
Morgano was arrested in August, 2023, after a traffic stop for speeding. A K9 officer detected drugs. Inside the vehicle, deputies say they found a crack pipe, a scale, crack and one of the newest variations of fentanyl to the area: red fentanyl.
A search of Morgano’s home yielded a variety of additional quantities of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, cutting agents, and other items related to the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, police say.
“A total weight of 27 grams of crack and 12 grams of red fentanyl was seized between the car and home. Depending on the purity of the fentanyl, this quantity could contain upwards of 6,000 lethal doses,” the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Dept. said in a statement.
According to the DEA, brightly-colored fentanyl is being seized in multiple forms across the country, including pills, powder, and blocks that resembles sidewalk chalk. Despite claims that certain colors may be more potent than others, there is no indication through DEA’s laboratory testing that this is the case. Every color, shape, and size of fentanyl should be considered extremely dangerous.
