GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Elementary and college students came together Thursday to celebrate the start of a new school year.
Jackson Elementary School and St. Norbert College partnered to host a “Back to School Blitz” for Jackson students and their families.
Along with snacks, inflatables and other fun-filled activities, the event also gave the elementary students a chance to collect their school supplies. Everything from notebooks, folders and Post-it notes to tissues, hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes were available.
All of the supplies were provided at no cost, thanks to a grant from Green Bay Packers Give Back and in-kind support from Festival Foods.
“We’re happy to lift that burden. We know that it is, for many families all over the country. But we’re just mostly happy to be here and interact with everybody,” said Sara Hamer, assistant director for student programs at St. Norbert College.
Just under 400 SNC freshmen and their orientation leaders were in attendance to man the pick-up stations. Hamer said it offers the students, many of whom are new to the area, a way to engage with and get to know the greater Green Bay community.
